Mount St. Mary’s University – Library Generator

MSMU needed emergency power backup for Information Technology data and security preservation for two campuses, held entirely on the Los Angeles campus, in the event of a power outage.  Because the college was built in the 1940’s, the old electric utility was unreliable.   MSMU purchased an extremely large generator to facilitate this backup power, but had no electrical design and/or plans to show how this generator was to be installed and electrically connected to the facility.

While most electrical contractors can install new electrical from an existing design/plan, however actually figuring out how to implement something new into a decades old facility from scratch is usually beyond their expertise. Because CORE has extensive experience with emergency power systems and aging facilities, the college avoided the standard lengthy and often very costly process of first hiring an engineering firm to do onsite discovery and engineer/produce plans, which would then be given to an electrical contractor for installation.

We were quickly able to provide site discovery, create a design and implement an electrical plan to provide for installation.  The plan was engineered, and the huge generator was installed and operational in 2 weeks.  CORElectric designed and executed a turnkey project, and this backup power system to protect highly critical information was able to be installed quickly and cost effectively.  The best part is the college also found a trusted partner for the aging facility’s electrical needs.  CORE has been upgrading and renovating MSMU’s campus for many years now.
