Catalina Island

White’s Landing Pier

CORElectric’s most recently completed project is the pier at White’s Landing owned by The Catalina Island Conservancy (CIC).  The pier was destroyed in a violent storm that devastated many of the Catalina Island northern coastline facilities.  In an effort to quickly rebuild the pier, the County of Los Angeles and Coastal Commission granted speedy approval of the pier construction rebuilding documents that did not include electrical power or lighting since the original pier did not have these services.  The CIC needed the power and lighting to facilitate emergency operations at the landing, for purposes of the children’s camps held there throughout the year.  The existing electrical service was too small with no capacity for any new pier electrical facilities.  A quick solution was required, including expedited electrical plan submittal and approval from the County of Los Angeles.  In essence, CORElectric had to move from concept to completion in 75 days in an extraordinarily hostile and corrosion-ridden marine environment.

Within a few days, CORElectric created a one-off custom design and specification to fit the existing pier construction plan, which had no provision for any electrical facilities.  Documents were delivered to CIC’s engineer and plans were submitted to the County.  CORE also facilitated the logistics of parallel material procurement to fit the tight time schedule.  We sourced and pieced together customized electrical product designed to deliver long service life in a marine environment known for causing quick deterioration of electrical components.

In the end, CORElectric delivered a solid electrical design and plan from scratch in very short order, coordinated it with the necessary jurisdictions as well as the power company, fabricated a system to fit the pier construction, overcame remote island construction and material delivery logistics, installed the system in the midst of heavy duty marine construction, and delivered the completed project on time showcasing the beautifully lit pier for a previously scheduled Regatta event.
